But last week, the national<span style=\"color: #3b3b3b; font-family: Segoe UI; font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dat.datpub.com\/resources\/trendlines\/van\/demand-and-capacity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">van load-to-truck ratio<\/a>\u00a0hit 3.7 loads per truck. That&#8217;s the highest it&#8217;s been since early January. The reefer load-to-truck ratio was also the highest since January. That helps vans, since those reefer trucks are busy when they might otherwise have competed for van freight. So we can expect conditions to improve for vans.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0px 0px 15px; padding: 0px; outline: 0px; border: 0px currentColor; color: #3b3b3b; text-transform: none; line-height: 1.5; text-indent: 0px; letter-spacing: normal; font-family: Lato, 'Segoe UI'; font-size: 15px; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; word-spacing: 0px; vertical-align: top; white-space: normal; orphans: 2; widows: 2; background-color: #ffffff; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial;\">Van rates continued to trend up last week, in fact, but it&#8217;s a slow and steady trend. The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dat.datpub.com\/resources\/trendlines\/van\/national-rates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">national average added 1\u00a2<\/a>\u00a0to $1.69\/mile, while prices rose on 55 of the top 100 van lanes. That&#8217;s compared to just 30 lanes that paid less than the previous week. When there are 3.7 van load posts per truck post, the important part of the story is not the number itself but whether it moves up or down from one week to the next, or one market to the next. The ratio is useful as a pressure gauge, to see if demand for trucks is going up or down in a specific place or time.
